It's rarely as nerve-wracking as Prom night. This is because, apart from the anxiety that "what if" stimulates the night of the prom, we need to avoid all the potential pitfalls that lead to the prom. Whether you have your dream date or plan to go to a wedding with a group of friends, a wedding dress is a must. Finding the perfect evening wear for such a formal occasion may seem like an impossible challenge.
1. I'm short, so I want to make the prom taller. What should I do?
There are three elements that can help you look taller on your special night: the right heel, the right wedding dress, and the right hairstyle. First, plan to wear high heels. Whether you add 1 inch or 3 inches to the heel, it's important to look for a wedding dress that corresponds to the heel. You may want to wear a cocktail length dress, but a floor length dress adds length to your body and gives the illusion of size. Look for a floor-length wedding dress with side slits for better usability. Finally, pay attention to your hairstyle choice. Select an updo to add height, even if you need to add extensions or hairpieces.
2. I'm a senior, but it looks like a second-year junior high school student. How do I look old for the prom?
When it comes to maturity, there are two things to keep in mind: attitude and appearance. Body language is important because how you move, how you tilt your head, how you speak, and how you walk speak a lot about your perceived age. There is no doubt that you don't want to be someone other than yourself, but this can be a good opportunity to practice skills that will help you grow into the person you want to be. Practice walking in ballroom dance shoes, looking in the mirror, recording your voice, and listening to the sounds. Adjust (and practice) your actions to reflect what you are feeling inside.
When looking for a wedding dress, look for something more formal. Formal attire makes women look older, as does dark and bold colors. Depending on the color scheme, we recommend using jewel tones, black, or chocolate brown.
3. How can I find out how to style my hair for prom?
How you style your hair depends largely on the style of your wedding dress. If your dress has a high collar or scoopline, an updo is the only option. On the other hand, if the wedding dress has sleeveless, strapless, or spaghetti straps, you can wear the hair long or short, full or straight. The only caveat is that the hair does not obscure the important features of the wedding dress. For example, behind this gorgeous keyhole, you can't see it with hair up to your waist!
