Dance Theater Arts: Ballet

The ancient Greeks were known as great warriors and artists. Humans are known to be gifted in fields such as theater, painting, sculpture, and poetry. The theater itself was an enclosed area with many other arts, such as acting, singing, dancing, writing, poetry, etc. This art was later reflected in other countries like India, China, and Indonesia. Ballet is basically a special form of dance inspired by Greek and Roman theaters that were fully completed in Italy and France in the 14th century. Although the dance was suppressed by the church, it spread this art in its own version to Russia and the United States. Ballet was driven from Latin the word "“Ballere”, which means dance.

During the Italian Renaissance, ballet was a product of the glitz of the court. Domenico da Piacenza a famous artist who mastered art. He taught the aristocrats and others who were playing in the city court. These court musicians and dancers were used to perform on grand occasions such as weddings. Then they were joined by the ballet De Cour consisting of dancers dressed in elegant costumes and singing beautiful songs. She moved from Italy to France when Catherine de'Medici of France married Henry II of Italy. She made a great contribution to this by helping make art flourish in France.

During the reign of Louis XIV, performance art was so important because he himself loved and was responsible for fixing what was known as the Paris Opera Ballet. The king's favorite Italian composer was Jean-Baptiste Lully. He had a good understanding of body movements, musical songs, and graceful dance. He made a great contribution to ballet, which was of the utmost importance even after many years. Together with another French writer, Molière, he created a comedy ballet. He was responsible for combining Italian and French ballet. French ballet initially consisted of instrumental music, but later vocal music was added.

By the late 1800s, ballet had been practiced in Russia, the United States, Denmark, and Paris. The artists responsible for this were Marius Petipa, August Bournonville, and Jules Perrot. An oriental story is also written. Ballets such as "Talisman" and "Pharaoh's Daughter" have become very famous among the people. Many of William Shakespeare's plays, such as "Midsummer Night's Dream," "Romeo," and "Juliet," have been interpreted through ballet.

The most important feature of ballet is that the thighs rotate outward from the waist. Performers interested in learning this art are expected to receive very intense health training. Some are practical and some are theoretical. Ballet contains French words used to name movements and steps. Dancers need to know French better. This also means that the terminology used for the procedures is universal. It is very important for a performer to have a strong lower body, especially the legs and abs. The emphase position requires strong legs, and body rotation requires strong abs. Dancers can also create the illusion of long or short limbs. When you bring your limbs closer to the back of your body, they look shorter, and when you put them forward, they look longer.

Ballet involves a lot of physics. Dancers must create the illusion of being against gravity. The dancer's body acts like a parabola or  projectile in the air, and gravity acts on the center of gravity of the body. You can pretend to be floating in the air by hanging your arms and legs  and lowering your head to jump. However, landing should be done carefully. Otherwise, dancers may fall and injure themselves, affecting the show. A preventive measure that can be taken in such cases is a shock-absorbing floor. Another technique that can be very dangerous is the rolling of the foot from toe to heel with knees bend. Such training requires professional help. Despite all these complexities associated with ballet performance, it remains one of the most popular performing arts in the world.
