For new smokers, lighting a cigar may seem as daunting as learning to choose a good cigar. Here are four tips to help you light a cigar for the first time.
1. If possible, use cedar matches. If you want to use a lighter, make sure it is a butane gas lighter to avoid strong odors.
2. Slowly heat the open end of the cigar (also known as the "cigar's leg") over the flame without touching the fire. Finally, let the black ring appear.
3. Put the cigar in your mouth and inhale slowly. Hold the cigar over the flame, about 0.5 inches above it, without touching it again. Continue inhaling until the cigar catches fire. Twist the cigar slowly and twist to achieve uniform burning.
4. When the cigar catches fire, remove it from your mouth and observe the burns you notice. If the burn looks uneven, one or two blow on the unlit area to take one or two draws from the cigar to reestablish an even burn.
