Wind farms are being mentioned more and more often as modern society seeks alternative energy sources. However, there are restrictions on wind farms as an important alternative energy source.

Wind power is an attractive energy platform compared to fossil fuels. This process works by using the energy inherent in wind power as a method of generating electricity. The actual methodology is very similar to hydropower but uses wind power instead of water. The wind turbine catches the wind, which rotates the rotor blades. This rotational movement cranks a generator that produces electricity. Electricity is stored in batteries or supplied to the grid by energy suppliers.

The use of wind energy to meet local needs has long been practiced. It is believed that the Persians first used it to turn grain grindstones. In modern times, the only purpose is to generate electricity. On a large scale, these are wind farms.

A wind farm is just a large cluster of wind turbines in a defined area. If you've driven east of San Francisco, you've probably seen a wind farm on the highway. Wind farms are both exhilarating and environmentally friendly sources of electricity, but with certain limitations.

The main limitation of wind farms is the electricity they generate. Simply put, they are not mass-produced and certainly not on the scale required by most cities in industrialized nations. Obviously, everywhere is different, but winds aren't always occurring in most places. Even so, the number of turbines needed to generate enough energy for a city is staggering. Of course, this leads to a second limitation.

For some, one of the limitations of wind farms is that they are annoying. I personally find them to have a fascinating and artistic look. But others definitely disagree. That's exactly why the Cape Wind Offshore Wind Farm project faces great resistance.

Wind farm limits are very important at this  time. These issues can be left behind when technology and new approaches such as offshore wind farms come to the fore.
