7 Tips for Maintaining a Wood-Burning Fireplace

Owning a fireplace can be a daunting task, but it really pays off if you can curl up with a nice book on a cold winter night. If you're investing in buying it, or if you're trying to get started with yours, you should insure a multitude of things before you start to use it.

Here are 7 Tips:

1. Buying Time

Buying a fireplace for your home requires a lot of consideration. First, you must meet the fire protection regulations in your area. You need to choose the right place to install the ventilation system and hire a specialist to install it. This guarantees the safety of your fireplace from the beginning.

2. Clean Out Time

If you have a fireplace but haven't used it yet, it's important to have a specialist come  and check it out. You need to make sure that the top is properly ventilated, that nothing is blocking the vents, and that it is safe enough to use.

3. Buying Wood

When you run the fireplace, be sure to buy only good quality wood. The wood should be aged for at least one year after cutting to avoid excessive smoke. It is often sold to you by your landscaping company, but make sure you get a good price. It's not all the same price. If you choose a bunch of wood purchased at the store, you may pay a little more.

4. Burning Properly

When putting wood in the chimney, you  need to make sure it fits properly and  the fireplace door is closed. If you don't have a door, you'll need a screen  to keep sparks out of the carpet and other combustibles.

5. Keep the draft vent open

When  using the fireplace, the fireplace must be open to allow smoke to escape. If you leave it open when not in use, you will feel a cold breeze. Get in the habit of making sure it's open before lighting any matches.

6. What You Burn.

It is also important to be careful about what you burn and what you burn. All products that can burn should not be burned as they release harmful toxins. Burn only things like wood and newspapers there.

7. Keep It Clean

Keep the fireplace clean by removing ashes after each fire. And once a year, it needs to be professionally cleaned. Another way is to use a chimney sweep protocol every two years, but even that should be done professionally to remove buildup.

Taking better care of your fireplace is essential to keeping it in good condition. Otherwise, you will endanger your family at home. Proper use of a fireplace  can reduce heating costs and create a fulfilling atmosphere.
